2022 had the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
Super Nova was on flying form, with fantastic runs at Intermediate/3* taking us to a dream result at Advanced. From start to finish she was faultless, as the fastest xc run of the weekend at Aston Le Walls, we finished 3rd in the Advanced u25. Less than 2 weeks later, I hit the deck in a freak accident at home and fractured several vertebrae, ribs and also damaged a ligament in my back. The most uncomfortable experience, which also knocked me out of contention for the 8/9 year old Championship at Blenheim Palace
I was heart broken, bed bound and controlled by a neck brace. I could not help but continue dreaming about life with my magical mare, and despite wondering how long I would take me to get back in the saddle, she was there to kiss me better!
A painful recovery process has picked up pace as we enter the New Year. Careful planning, physio and fitness meant that within 6 months of my accident I was scoring 92% at British Dressage Youth A Squad this weekend (29/1/23). I have so many people to thank for support and positive energy during my recovery. I am also please to welcome Rebecca from RW Physiotherapy to the team! She has been fantastic at keeping the horses in good shape and will help guide my return to competition.
We would also like to thank Keratex Hoofcare, Profeet Custom, Black Nova Designs, Tyler’s Ebroidery and KEP Italia for their continued support. These brands have been essential for the health of humans and horses at Palmer Equestrian, and helped us create team branding. We are always open to trying new products, and working with new brands who would like to support our fun and ambitious team.
I am finally feeling ready to work harder, challenge my body, and feel less worried about the potential impact on my recovery. I jumped Super Nova for the first time today! Greenhays Blueberry who also scored well in the A Squad Young Horse test, will join Nova in aiming for the BD Youth Inter-County in May and hope to be selected for Regionals and Home International Competitions. Nova will compete in dressage and showjumping competitions for a couple of months and step back up to Advanced/4* middle to end of the 2023 season.
Keep your eyes peeled for more youngsters emerging from Greenhays Stud and remember “rock bottom will teach you lessons that mountain tops never will.” A good quote to remember when the going gets tough!
Wishing you all the best for 2023 and beyond 🙂
