Super Nova finishes her 4* season in style

Less than a year after getting back into the saddle feeling like a fragile spinal rehab patient, I have achieved my dreams!

At the start of August last year, Super Nova and I had just finished 3rd at Advanced u25 when I fell off a young horse at home. Trying to be brave I walked away from the accident. I soon lost control of my back movement, and was fuelled by shock. Scans later that day showed that I had 3 significant spinal fractures, and other vertebrae that had been impacted, swelling between all my vertebrae, multiple fractured ribs and ligament damage. Determined or stubborn, I never changed my mind about partnering the horse of my dreams this season!

Super Nova has been an unbelievable part of my life for more than 6 years now! I am so proud to have enjoyed training her from wobbly 4 year old to 4* pro. I never thought that I would have the opportunity to ride at such a high level, to be aiming for 5* at the end of next year is even more exciting!

Although, I still need to push on with more rehab this winter. I am amazed that I have managed to pilot Nova to British Eventing and British Show jumping wins, and a clean sheet of brilliant Cross Country rounds. Three 4* clears, a 3*L top 10 and 4*L qualification has improved our International ranking.

Amongst all of this, to give my recovery more time in the spring, Nova produced an embryo for a surrogate mare and I am expecting a mega Nova in 2024!

Our journey and results are evidence of the trust involved for successful equestrian partnerships. I will work hard this winter, and endeavour to improve my strength next season. I am also excited to offer a variety of opportunities to new owners and sponsors. We have some wonderful young homebred horses with the talent to compete at the highest level. Equally, Super Nova and I would appreciate support for our 5* campaign next season! Please get in touch if you would like details about how we could work together – finance, products, training, ownership etc.

Now for a short break, and a winter getting to know the young horses. Exploring new training ideas and making improvements for the 2024 season.
