Covid to Championship Qualification

Taking on the challenge to complete 1000 minutes of high intensity workouts in January was an energetic start to the New Year! I did at least 30 minutes a day starting just before New Year. I saw considerable improvement in my fitness until I tested positive for Covid on the 26th and finished 160 minutes short of my target! I never surrender to a challenge so I decided to complete the rest as mental workouts which I have realised are equally as important. Headspace made me focus on positive mindset, even when I was struggling to get out of bed to muck out stables!

This is written by a person who rides up to 10 horses a day, mucks out stables, walks dogs and enjoys working on her fitness. The Covid crash was a month of feeling completely exhausted, even after my initial symptoms subsided.

Luckily I managed to keep the horses ticking over for 10 days then they continued full work. Super Nova attended the British Dressage Area Festival and Regional Championship without our usual preparation. Nevertheless, she made the most of the opportunity to prove how much she has grown in physical and mental confidence over the winter. Placed at both competitions and qualified for the Petplan Medium Championship after a 2nd place finish. Back on track for our event season preparation, we look forward to showjumping competitions in March. So far we have 4/4 double clears starting at 1.10m and finishing at 1.30m.

All the young horses have made fantastic progress over the winter and provide Greenhays Stud with plenty of excitement about the expanding breeding program.

Full steam ahead – dreaming big for 2022 & beyond!
